Study all you want, but if you don’t read the directions on your test correctly, you won’t get the right answer! We’ve found the three best tips for never misreading a question again.
Underline pertinent information. Often, problems will include a lot of unnecessary words, which must be filtered out in order to get to the crux of the problem or task at hand. Use a pen or highlighter to emphasize key information and forget about everything else.
Reread and reread. It’s so easy to miss information when reading directions. Often we skim over them in a hurry to get to the actual work we are excited to do. However, all our work can be in vain if we don’t follow the instructions properly. Read the directions a few times before starting to work!
Get into the habit. Think of reading the directions as just another part of solving a problem. You wouldn’t solve for x before isolating it, would you? So why should you start a problem before reading the instructions? Treat it as just another step towards a solution.
Make sure to not forget these tips so that you can get the grade you deserve!
