Hello, my name is Julia!

I am a recent graduate of University of Virginia who majored in Biology and minored in Visual Arts. Most recently, I received the Huayu scholarship (paid by the Taiwanese government to study Mandarin Chinese) for 6 months, and came back to the US in March.

I am primarily interested in teaching STEM subjects because I think that science is not only important, but extremely fascinating. I want to help people see science as something fun, not just a learning obligation. I love helping people understand concepts that are difficult for them. I am a visual teacher, and like to use my own diagrams and visual examples.

I am also passionate about foreign languages, and teaching English to others (I am TEFL certified!). In university, I worked as a volunteer EFL tutor for one year with someone who had just moved from overseas, and am experienced in picking apart the English language.

I am flexible, easily reachable by text, and determined to answer any difficult questions in a way that is easy to understand. Outside of teaching, my interests include drawing, learning foreign languages, and writing stories. I also like to edit other people’s writing!
